Sir Alex gets a copy!

Sir Alex receives his copy of Sons of United

On October 24th 2013, former manager Sir Alex Ferguson held a book signing event at Tesco in Stretford which gave author Steve, son and book designer Matthew and grandson Oliver the opportunity to meet the great man and present him with a copy of Sons of United.

David Moyes’s letter to the authors

Moyes's letter

In late September 2013 authors Steve and Tony attended a former players function at Old Trafford. They presented new manager David Moyes with a copy of Sons of United and this letter was his grateful response. It has since become evident to the authors that Mr. Moyes has been reading up about the Reds youth history through the book, ascomments about the Youth team in his programme notes (05/1/2014 Vs. Swansea City) would indicate.

Interview with the authors

Over the last few weeks both Steve and Tony were interviewed about ‘Sons of United’ and asked how the idea to write the publication first came about, their favourite pieces within the book, the eighteen-year long process to finally get it published and what makes it so special to Manchester United fans around the world.

Watch the full interview and also see the magnitude of ‘Sons of United’ as they walk you through the 576 pages that make this book something truly unique.

Book sales reach 700 copies sold!

Since the book was first published in December 2012 we have been delighted with the response from United fans across the globe, including Scandinavia, USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa, Vietnam, across Europe and even Mongolia! Feedback to date has been magnificent and includes glowing reviews in the Daily Mail, Manchester Evening News and Backpass magazine.

“Received my copy today – what an amazing piece of work! Worth every penny, and more. In-depth doesn’t even begin to describe it…fantastic!”

Priced at £40.00 plus p&p you can purchase your copy through the “Sons of United” website and your book will be delivered to your door. Due to the physical size and weight of the book, postage costs are higher than the average book you would buy on Amazon or through other online book sellers. Additionally, due to the limited quantities printed, delivery companies have been reluctant to give us any meaningful discount.

Thus there are four options to choose from when you purchase the book:

UK purchase with personal collection (£40.00)
UK purchase plus postage and packing (£49.00)
Ireland, France, Belgium, Germany, Holland (£53.50)
All other countries (£58.50)

Over the coming weeks Tony and Steve will have copies of Sons of United available for purchase before home games at Old Trafford, Reserve games at Altrincham and at Carrington on Saturday mornings. With the end of the season just around the corner, this will be your last opportunity to obtain a copy of the book first hand and obviously save on postage costs.

We realise that while postage may be prohibitive to some overseas supporters, the digital version will remain available as a download to your computer, laptop, ipad or other tablet for £19.99. We plan to make the digital version available through i-bookstore in the near future but unfortunately Kindle costs are too high.

We are confident that you will find “Sons of United” a unique history of the greatest football club in the world.

We would like to thank everyone who has purchased a copy to date and remind all others that the book is strictly limited to 1500 copies. Once they’ve gone, they’ve gone!

Hardback…first look!

1953 F.A. Youth Cup winners…in colour!

Manchester United’s world-renowned youth system was first established in the early 1930’s with the formation of the Manchester United Junior Athletic Club (MUJACs). The aim of the organisation was to identify, recruit and develop young local footballers with a view to them eventually progressing into the first-team.

When the F.A. Youth Cup was introduced in the 1952/53 season, United were years ahead of most of their rivals in regards to the depth of teenage talent on their books and they claimed the trophy for five years in succession. Over that period players such as Duncan Edwards, David Pegg and Bobby Charlton broke through to the senior side and helped to spawn the legend of the ‘Busby Babes’. Since then a multitude of other youngsters such as Johnny Giles, George Best, Mark Hughes, Norman Whiteside, Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Paul Scholes and Danny Welbeck have graced United’s first-team and gone on to figure at international level.

Sons of United charts the origins of United’s youth operation and details the formation of the F.A. Youth Cup, as well as a match report for every game the club has fulfilled in the competition from 1952 to their record-breaking tenth winning of the trophy in 2011. Containing a foreword by three-times F.A. Youth Cup winner and former manager Wilf McGuinness, the book also provides details of some of the club’s youth tours, over 100 player biographies, including every youth team captain, and dozens of photographs, many of which have never been seen publicly.
